Major endorsement cements Kassakhian as the choice of working families

GLENDALE – The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO – the largest labor council in California – has thrown its full support behind Ardy Kassakhian for State Assembly.

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO represents over 300 unions and hundreds of thousands of working women and men throughout Los Angeles County. The Federation’s endorsement is pivotal in Los Angeles area campaigns, particularly in Democratic areas like the 43rd Assembly District. The group has a well-earned reputation for its effective political mobilizations on behalf of its endorsed candidates.

Ardy Kassakhian said: “I’m honored and humbled that LA’s working people have put their trust in me. In the Assembly, I’ll fight with everything I’ve got to strengthen the middle class by creating good jobs right here in Los Angeles, making college more affordable and raising the minimum wage so no one who works full time lives in poverty.”

The endorsement by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO comes on the heels of significant growing momentum for Ardy Kassakhian. This week, he earned the endorsement of California School Employees Association, adding to the broad coalition of labor unions that have endorsed him, including SEIU California, IATSE Local 80, Laborers’ Pacific Southwest Region (LiUNA!), Teamsters Joint Council 42, Painters and Allied Trades District Council 36, and the Glendale City Employees Association.

Ardy Kassakhian has demonstrated broad community support. Since launching his campaign last year, he has raised more than $470,000 and received endorsements from State Treasurer John Chiang, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Superintendent of Instruction Tom Torlakson, Congressman Brad Sherman, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the Glendale Democratic Club, Democrats for Neighborhood Action, and the East Area Progressive Democrats.

Ardy Kassakhian grew up and attended public schools in Glendale. He was first elected Glendale City Clerk in 2005. As Clerk, he has reduced government waste by introducing environmentally sound practices, made election information easier to access and worked to increase voter participation. Ardy graduated from UCLA and the Executive Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He lives with his wife Courtney and their young son in Glendale.
