United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) Endorses Ardy Kassakhian for Assembly

Ardy Kassakhian today announced that United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) has endorsed his State Assembly campaign. With more than 31,000 members, UTLA is the second largest teachers union local in the country, representing the educators of L.A.’s public school. The announcement comes on the heels of the powerful endorsement from the California Teachers Association (CTA). In its statement of support, UTLA noted: “Ardy Kassakian has shown continuous support for public education. As a product of public schools and raised by a public school teacher, he knows firsthand the importance of fighting for the schools L.A. students deserve. He is committed to giving educators a voice at halting the privatization of public education. United Teachers Los Angeles is proud to endorse Ardy Kassakhian for Assembly District 43.”

Major endorsement solidifies Kassakhian’s standing as the clear choice for teachers and education leaders

GLENDALE – Ardy Kassakhian today announced that United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) has endorsed his State Assembly campaign. With more than 31,000 members, UTLA is the second largest teachers union local in the country, representing the educators of L.A.’s public school. The announcement comes on the heels of the powerful endorsement from the California Teachers Association (CTA).

In its statement of support, UTLA noted: “Ardy Kassakian has shown continuous support for public education. The official candidate of the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Ardy Kassakhian has received an outpouring of support from teachers and education leaders, including State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, LAUSD Board President Steve Zimmer, L.A. Community College Board President Scott J. Svonkin, Glendale Board of Education President Dr. Armina Gharpetian, all five members of the Glendale Community College Board, and a majority of the members of the Burbank Board of Education. Additionally, Kassakhian is endorsed by Assembly Speaker Emeritus John A. Pérez, who currently serves as a University of California Regent, and Los Angeles education advocate Assemblymember Jackie Goldberg (ret.).

About Ardy Kassakhian

Ardy Kassakhian grew up and attended public schools in Glendale. He was first elected Glendale City Clerk in 2005. As Clerk, he has reduced government waste by introducing environmentally sound practices, made election information easier to access and worked to increase voter participation. Ardy graduated from UCLA and the Executive Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He lives with his wife Courtney and their young son in Glendale.

Ardy Kassakhian is running to represent Assembly District 43, which includes the communities of Burbank, Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta-Montrose and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Atwater Village, East Hollywood, Franklin Hills, Hollywood Hills, Los Feliz and Silver Lake.
